GETTING STARTED IS AS EASY AS 1, 2, 3!

Group classes are a great way to teach your dog all the skills and manners that they need to be a great family pet in an environment where they can learn alongside other dogs and humans.

Every dog is different and has different needs when it comes to training.  Group classes don't always work - sometimes a dog doesn't cope well in a group where focus is important. Maybe the class times don't work well with your schedule. Or maybe you'd just prefer a little more personal, one to one attention to work through your training.

Whatever you need, Dog School is here to help. If you're not sure, send us a message and we can have a chat.

LIFE SKILLS 2

Advanced Class

Are you a graduate of our Life Skills 1 course who wants to move on to the next stage of your training? Are you striving to bring out the best in your dog? Would you like a dog that will listen anytime, anywhere, no matter what...even off-leash on a beach full of squirrels? Great! Please hold on to that vision, but first you need to take the next logical step on that journey.

This four week class is designed to advance and polish the skills you learned in Obedience 1. We build on the foundation laid in previous classes, raising the bar of expectations and preparing the dogs for real world situations. We also add in a few new cues and an intro to agility, tricks and other fun games!

What's included:

  • Fading The Lure - food lures become hand signals to avoid a “Show me the money” dog

  • Petting & Praise - stronger emphasis on verbal praise and affection with less treats

  • Increasing the 3 D's - distance, duration and distractions

  • Cafe Relax - teaching your dog to chill while you do - coffee & donuts provided!

  • Wait - boundary training exercise to stop your dog from bolting through doors

  • Fluency - Learn new verbal commands and hand signals

ROCKET RECALL

Recall masterclass

If your answer to any of the following questions is ‘yes’, then this may be the course for you!

  • Does your dog stop listening to you as soon as you take them outside for a walk?

  • Perhaps your dog recalls beautifully when there isn’t too much else going on, but ignores your requests to come back in favour of playing with other dogs, saying hello to strangers, sniffing around in the hedges or chasing squirrels in the park?

  • Do you have to call / whistle to your dog more than once before they come back to you?

  • Is your dog reluctant to let you reattach their lead at the end of a walk? Perhaps they dodge away from you or struggle when you hold their collar or harness

In this class you'll learn how to:

  • Teach your dog a basic recall cue

  • Use a recall whistle

  • Encourage your dog to give you better focus and attention

  • Build your value as a highly-rewarding feature of your dog’s environment through a variety of fun recall games

  • Identify when your dog is likely to make a mistake and what you can do to change the situation to enable them to be successful

  • Respond positively when a recall attempt is unsuccessful

  • Use a recall training line correctly and effectively

  • Vary the type and frequency of rewards given to your dog to help promote successful recall at different stages of training

  • Handle transitions between your dog being ‘on-lead, off-lead, on-lead’ so that your dog remains relaxed and cooperative

  • Avoid training mistakes that can weaken your dog’s recall; make your dog reluctant to be put back on their lead.

When it comes to recall, you want your dog to respond first time because they want to - not because they HAVE to, even when other everyday things that attract their interest and attention are present in the environment. We want to help you achieve that!

This course is great value for money at only €65 inc. IVA for 4 x weekly 60 minute classes.

Who this class is for:

All breeds, sizes and shapes of dog can take part. Dogs need to be well socialised as they will be often working off lead with other dogs and some basic obedience skills are an advantage.

PRIVATE TRAINING PROGRAMS

About private training programs:

Every dog is different and therefore has different needs when it comes to training.  Group classes don't always work - sometimes a dog doesn't cope well in a group where focus is important. Maybe the class times don't work well with your schedule. Or maybe you'd just prefer a little more personal, one to one attention to work through your training.

Whatever the reason, private training sessions can be tailored exactly to what YOU and your dog really need.

  • personal sessions based on your dog's learning style and speed

  • session times are flexible and can be worked around your schedule

  • work on what you really need and get instant and specific feedback

  • time to talk with an instructor and ask as many questions as you like

  • book as many sessions as you need, as often as you need

BEHAVIOUR THERAPY

Sometimes there are more difficult and challenging behaviour problems that need a bit more work and often liaising with a vet. Unlike regular training, behaviour modification looks to change a dog’s reaction to a situation, a person, an object, another animal, etc.

This type of package is for dogs living with issues such as reactivity, aggression, resource guarding, and fear and requires a minimum of 3 sessions, one of which includes a consultation and analysis.
